From Malaig Bheag to Manhattan: The Story of Transnational Gael, “Angus The Yank”

April 11 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Join the New York Caledonian Club and the New York Genealogical & Biographical Society for an evening of Scottish heritage at the official pub of NYC Tartan Week.

Scottish ethnologist, Sophie Stephenson, presents the biography of return-migrant, Angus MacLellan “The Yank” (1892–1978) – a Gael, storyteller and tradition bearer from Malaig Bheag, Scotland, who lived in NYC from 1920-33 and was a member of the New York Caledonian Club. Opportunity for Q&As after the presentation, followed by an open discussion in which Sophie is interested to hear from anyone who may have their own stories to share about Gaelic speaking relatives in NYC. The talk will be held on the 2nd floor.

Stick around after to hear all about the New York Genealogical & Biographical Society’s upcoming heritage trip to Scotland to be held in October, followed by a traditional music session downstairs.
